Searching for Home: the Many Lives of Lucy Maud Montgomery

An Exhibit at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre — October, 2008 to January, 2009

The Guelph Connection

L.M. Montgomery as Mrs. L.M. Macdonald often spoke at Guelph events including the Ontario Agricultural College (JPG – 85kb).

L.M. Montgomery as "Mrs. L.M. Macdonald" often spoke at Guelph events including those of the Ontario Agricultural College.

And the final question the visitor will have for the exhibit is, but why Guelph? How did the Montgomery archives get to the University of Guelph and why put them on display?

From 1926 to 1934 she lived in nearby Norval and often visited Guelph for many practical reasons including banking, shopping, visiting and fulfilling speaking engagements at the Ontario Agricultural College. But there are other reasons, little known secrets that make the author a tragic hero and perhaps are at the root of the success of Canada's most compelling story-teller.

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first publication of Anne of Green Gables! Visit Guelph. The Macdonald Stewart gallery is open daily to the general public and school groups from Tuesday to Sunday, noon to 5:00 p.m. (admission is free; donations are appreciated).

After January 18th, 2009 the exhibit and educational modules for exploring it will continue to be available in "virtual" form and will be available online free to researchers and fans from across the word as a core component of the University's new L.M. Montgomery Research Centre Web site right here at lmmrc.ca/exhibit.
