Reverend Ewan Macdonald and his bride Lucy Maud Montgomery arrived in Leaskdale in the fall of 1911 after honeymooning in Great Britain. She lived here for fifteen years and wrote eleven of twenty-two novels. She writes in her journal, "how I love this old manse where my children were born and where I have tasted such rapturous happiness and endured so much hideous agony. I loved its very faults..."
Come share the life of this great author and the history of this hamlet. The Leaskdale Historic Church and Manse are open to the public.
Summer Hours: Wednesday-Sunday 10am-4pm (or spring and fall by appointment).
Join us for a Wednesday Tea and Workshop throughout the summer; come to our annual Lucy Maud Montgomery Day on October 18th, or take in one of our special concerts this fall.
